So how exactly do gorillas keep their hair healthy and glossy (note that gorillas do not have fur they have hair...just like us). The mountain gorilla has the longest hair because of the cold and wet environment which is its natural habitat. Although mountain gorillas are subjected to plenty of downpours and showers, it is not the rain but rather grooming that is responsible for the silky glossy sheen of their hair.
Gorillas spend a lot of time grooming each other, picking out pieces of debris, insects and other particles that get entangled within their hair. Thus grooming is a very inportant aspect in gorilla society, both from a cleanliness point of view as well as a bonding and social aspect. Gorillas groom one another as well as self-groom.
